Obituary of Melba Jean Waldrep

Graveside services for Melba Jean Waldrep, age 91, of Roanoke, will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, July 9th.

Mrs. Waldrep passed away on Monday, July 8, 2024, at Roanoke Healthcare Center.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Waldrep, Tim Waldrep, Asher Lovelace, Jonathan Garrett, Lance Garrett, and David Windsor.

A Randolph County native, Mrs. Waldrep was born June 15, 1933, the daughter of Robert L. and Lee Ella Bassett Waldrep.  She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and the Eastern Star.  She served as a communications specialist in the Air Force and received an honorable discharge to care for her mother.  Mrs. Waldrep retired from Lanett Mills; she loved watching westerns, playing guitar, gardening, and riding her lawnmower, but most of all, she loved her family.

Mrs. Waldrep was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Iva Lee Jones and Annie R. White; seven brothers, Doc Waldrep, J. W. Waldrep, Ford Waldrep, Robert J. Waldrep, Hershal Fred Waldrep, Thomas June Waldrep, and Herbert (Dolly) Waldrep.
