Obituary of Fred Nixon
Funeral services for Fred Nixon, age 85, of Roanoke will be held on Friday, November 29, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Roanoke First Methodist Church with Rev. Matt Colburn officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 12:30 PM on Friday before services begin.
Mr. Nixon passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at Traylor’s Retirement Center.
Survivors include his wife, Vicki Nixon of Roanoke; six children, Chris Nixon (Dillon Potter) of St. Petersburg, FL, Phillip Nixon (Kathy) of Canton, GA, Scott Nixon of Opelika, Chad Nixon of Roanoke, Mick Daniel (Morgan) of Del Norte`, CO, and Renee Marshall (Bobby) of Brewton, AL; four grandchildren, Justin Marshall (Jennifer), Jakob Nixon, Jordan English (Bo), and Nicholle Malone (Drew); eight great-grandchildren with one on the way; and one sister, JoAnn Carroll of Gainesville, GA.
Pallbearers will be Jakob Nixon, Justin Marshall, Drew Malone, Bo English, Dillon Potter, and Marvin Barton. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the men’s Bible class of Roanoke First Methodist Church and Mike Carson.
A West Point, GA native, Mr. Nixon was born on October 10, 1939, the son of Winfred Bloomer and Mary Elizabeth Moon Nixon. He was a member of the Roanoke First Methodist Church and worked as a radiologic technician at Randolph County Hospital for 26 years and then at West Georgia Medical Center. Mr. Nixon sang with the Gospel Troubadors for 15 years and he sang in the choir at church. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Nixon was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Strom Carroll; and special friend, Mack Diamond.
